Eight weeks old!

Grace is eight weeks old!

I had every intention of blogging Tuesday night when I got home from work and about three times since then, but sometimes life happening prevents me from writing about it!  I'm going to try to remember everything I wanted to say...

Work on Tuesday was great.  Honestly, it went a lot better than I expected.  I wasn't upset at all and the day flew by.  Thursday was very different.  It was still a good day as far as work goes, but I really missed Grace and wanted to go home and hang with her all day.  It was hard.  I think it didn't help that she hadn't been sleeping well and I was getting four hours of sleep each night.  As one of my co-workers reminded me, being sleep-deprived makes everything seem worse.  I think maybe part of the reason I was so bummed on Thursday was that Grace acted genuinely happy to see me when I got home at lunch- like she knew I'd been gone for a while.  It kind of broke my heart!  But I got more good advice from a co-worker with a five month old.  She told me that she just takes it one day at a time, sometimes one afternoon or morning at a time.  I will try that theory out next week!

I was concerned about breast-pumping at work so I could still give Grace breast milk when she went to daycare.  I had been "practicing" for the past few weeks and it was not going all that well.  I even called the lactation consultant at the hospital because I didn't seem to be getting enough to satiate Grace.  Once I got to work, though, I started double pumping and was able to get enough each session for a bottle for Grace.  I'm thankful that works as I really want to keep breast-feeding Grace until she's a year old.

Wednesday I ran for the first time since February.  Ouch.  Seriously.  Shiloh was in doggie heaven because she loves to run.  But even she was pretty tired by the time we got back home...I think we're both out of shape!  I am still sore from jogging.  I need to work back into it, though, so I can be prepared for the Tulsa Run in October!  I've been working out hard core for the past two weeks and trying to eat really well, but have not lost any more baby weight yet.  That is very discouraging because I feel like I'm trying so hard!

Thursday was Nathaniel's birthday!  Happy late birthday, honey!  He enjoyed the day hanging out with Gracie at home.  Gracie wore her "My heart belongs to Daddy" onesie for the first time in celebration of the event.  We get to continue the celebration today with a trip to Coldstone Creamery for some ice cream.  Yum!

Friday Grace and I stopped by her day care to meet the morning teachers and drop off some of her supplies.  I'm really glad we went.  It was nice to let Grace (and me!) meet the morning teachers before I drop her off on Monday and it really helped me to see that she did great there.  And when she fussed for a few minutes, I just had to remind myself that she fusses at my house too, even when I'm holding her.  So that made me feel a bit better.  But overall this was a much better trip to the day care.  I also took to heart Laura's advice (thanks, Laura!) and took crib sheets and blankets of our own and I'm going to take pictures on Monday to put around Grace's crib.  It'll make me feel better to know she has pictures of us around her, even though she won't know what they are yet.

Today was Grace's first photo shoot!  She did not enjoy it...she was very fussy.  I was so impressed with the people who did it, though, and highly recommend them.  It was Kimmy and Dustin from Basic Black Photography.  Despite the fact that Grace was super upset, we had so many great shots to choose from!  We took some of all three of us and some of just her.  We ordered a few big prints for the house and then a few smaller ones for both of our offices.  We get them on Thursday (so quick!) so I'll be showing them off soon!  Again, I highly recommend them- they came to our house and took pictures for about an hour and we were very pleased with the pictures we got.  And they are very, very affordable!

The Smith household is in full Olympics mode!  This morning we watched some women's basketball and volleyball and we're looking forward to swimming tonight.  We also love the Summer Olympics because it reminds us of our h0neymoon.  We were on our honeymoon during the 2004 Games and watched a ton of the competitions because we weren't too fond of our location!  Grace wore her "I love the USA" dress yesterday in honor of the Opening Ceremony and we tried to teach her to chant "U-S-A" but it didn't take.  :-)
