Grace Capri Smith

Grace right after being born

Me, Nathaniel, and Grace- our first family picture!

Mom and Dad with Gracie.

Grace being "The Thinker."

Grace with her eyes open (they are slate blue) holding Daddy's finger.  Can you believe all of that hair??

Grace Capri was born on Friday, June 13th at 5:54 pm!  She is 8 lbs. 9 ozs. and 20.5 inches long.  We are back at home now and enjoying the company of my mom and sisters.  It was so fun to have lots of visitors in the hospital and see everyone get to meet Grace.

We went to the hospital at 5:30 am and I was started on Pitocin at 6:15 am.  By about 7:30 am, I'd had an epidural and was set for a comfortable labor.  By about 2 pm, I realized that I was feeling some pretty strong contractions.  Turns out the right side of my body didn't want any pain medication!  So I had the very strange sensation of feeling the full effects of labor on one side and feeling absolutely nothing on the other.  It seemed like labor took forever until about 3:30 when it began moving very quickly.  I pushed for about 20 minutes and then got to meet our baby girl!  I nominate Nathaniel for birth coach of the year, especially since we had not taken any of those breathing classes or birthing classes since I was counting on an epidural.  One thing that really helped us both was having our iPod dock there to play our newest playlist of worship music.  It was really comforting to be listening to that for both of us while we were in the very last stages of labor.  Overall, we were so happy with our experience at the hospital and with all of the wonderful nurses who helped us in the hours afterward.  Of course I have lots more details (including the excitement that occurred when I passed out!) but some aren't for the faint of heart...or most men.  :-)  Thank you for all of your prayers!

So now we're home and trying to figure out how to be parents.  Last night was really rough- I didn't sleep until 3:30am and only got an hour and a half then.  But tonight will be better as we learn what works for us and Grace.  I'm so thankful to have my mom here to encourage us right now.

I'll try to update frequently as we take more pictures and learn more about our baby girl.  We are so thankful she is healthy and happy!

She is so cute!!! I can't wait to meet her. And look at all that hair!!! I can vaguely remember those first few days at home with Parker....I promise it gets easier as you learn the little tricks that make her comfortable. And if your experience is anything like mine, you'll forget the really rough times and just remember the good ones. =)

Lizzie

She is beautiful. What a gift from God.

I know that you may not feel this way right now, but sleep is over-rated. NOT!

You are blessed
